B U I L D I N G G L O B A L T R U S T I N D E C O M M I S S I O N I N G & R A D I O A C T I V E W A S T E M A N A G E M E N T 1 4 2017 WMS Fellow Award Recipients WM Symposia established the honor of WMS Fellow in 2011 to recognize volunteers for distinguished contributions to the advancement of radioactive waste and radioactive material management. Elevation to the status of WMS Fellow is attained through peer recognition and confirmation by the WMS Board of Directors. Kim “KD” Auclair, a former member of the US Navy, has more than 40 years of professional experience in the resolution of problems or capitalization upon opportunities presented. He is the Founder and Chief Executive of KD Auclair & Associates LLC — a veteran owned small business, located in Richland, Washington. Mr. Auclair is an executive level professional trained in project and program management, technology RDDT&E, and technology risk assessments and maturation planning. He is also trained in the application of Sustainable Design; Six Sigma, Design for Six Sigma, LEAN, and AGILE principles and other process improvement and applied risk reduction methodologies. He has served in and/or supported governments domestic and foreign, as well as major corporations in addressing all aspects of a wide range of market sectors from aerospace to environmental, nuclear to robotics and remote systems in extreme environments, to defense/ warfare theater operations and a host of sectors in-between. With regard to the nuclear & environmental market sectors, Kim’s support and leadership roles have spanned the full project and/or program life-cycle inclusive of mining and metals, fuel fabrication, advanced reactor design, advanced military systems and space systems, D&D/D4 activities, transportation, waste processing and disposal, safeguards and security, and non-proliferation. The key emphasis in all of these activities has been in the successful transfer of technology and process from one sector to another, and always from the multi-faceted perspectives of integrated risk management. In this service, notable was his tenure as Chief Engineer of Advanced Technology, Data Visualization, Extreme Environment Operations and Risk Management for a Fortune 50 Company’s R&D group, serving all global business units on a domestic and international basis, as well as in service of [all but a few of the] US Government agencies and organizations. Notable projects have included Three-Mile Island, Chernobyl, the first and second Gulf wars, the Exxon Valdez incident recovery, special projects at Savannah River, Idaho National Engineering Lab, LANL, Sandia, NSF, the National Academy of Science, and for the last 16 years at Hanford, to name a few. Kim’s contributions to WM Symposia have spanned more than 20 years, starting as a contributing author in the 1980’s, as a PAC Supporter for Track 2, and as a PAC member for more than 15 years.
