Session 020 - Culture - The Linchpin for Safety

This panel focused on the critical role that culture plays in successful safety programs.  While requirements, procedures and training courses are elements of a safety program, culture is the linchpin that holds them all together.  Building a strong safety culture is like a marathon, not a sprint; it demands tenacity, leadership and trust.

Less than 100% safe performance is unacceptable. For example, a 1.7% error rate by US pharmacies in dispensing prescriptions results in 30 million mistakes each year.  This session shared a spirited discussion with our expert world-wide panelists on the importance of culture in building a safety program.

Panelists included: Tony Muschara, Principal Consultant and Owner, Muschara Error Management Consulting, LLC; Andy Campbell, Deputy Director, Office of Enforcement, US NRC, Emmy Roos, Marketing and External Affairs, Belgoprocess (Belgium); and William Rigot, Senior Consultant/Project Manager, Fluor Technical Support Services.
