This session discussed the strategy and progress made to characterize groundwater contamination caused by 828 underground nuclear tests at the NNSS. It showcased the efficiencies and the consolidation of groundwater sampling to include simplification of well types; evolution of the Community Environmental Monitoring Program to involve Nye County in groundwater sample collection; the Nevada Site Specific Advisory Board recommendation on communicating progress to stakeholders; the future application of Advanced Simulation Capability for Environmental Management (ASCEM) transport code; and the State of Nevada regulator’s perspective on approach and progress.
