Session 052 - US DOE Mixed Waste Disposition: Dealing with the Flip Side of Reduced ARRA Funding and Commercial Mixed Waste Issues

This panel focused on how US DOE sites are dealing with the significant reductions in funding that are coming, how decision makers are prioritizing the numerous projects in mixed waste disposal that are not completed, how treatment vendors and disposal site operators are maintaining capability and other issues related to the funding dips. In addition the panel, primarily composed of US DOE or Contractor representatives, was joined by a manager of a commercial facility with mixed waste disposition issues to share experiences from the non-US DOE generator side.

Panelists included: Andy Baumer, Deputy Facility Operations Director, Los Alamos National Laboratory; Jhon Carilli, Low Level Waste Activity Lead, US DOE; Renee Echols, Senior Vice President, Perma-Fix; Ken Grumski, Vice President, Federal Services, Waste Control Specialists; Paul Larsen, Senior Vice President, EnergySolutions; and Bruno Zovi, LLW/MLLW Program Manager, Advanced Mixed Waste Treatment Project, Idaho Treatment Group.
