Session:

74 - Waste Management at US DOE National Security Administration Sites

This Senior Manager paper and panel session will focus on waste management at National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA) sites. NNSA was created by Congress in the year 2000 as a semi-autonomous agency within the US DOE to provide safeguards and security associated with the nation's nuclear weapons complex. All site offices (i.e., Albuquerque Service Center, Kansas City, Livermore, Los Alamos, Nevada, Pantex, Bettis, Sandia and Y-12) are fully functional. The uniqueness of the weapons complex provides an opportunity for the eight sites to gather together and present their individual approaches to management of the various waste types at each site and hopefully provide some consistency in their practices. This first session is intended to invite all NNSA sites to the session and present their waste management programs to share information and lessons learned and their waste management strategies.
