This panel discussed preliminary findings of the Commission to review the effectiveness of the National Energy Laboratories. The Commission, established on May 20, 2014 by US DOE Secretary of Energy, was expected to publish initial findings in February 2015. In addition to the initial findings, panelists addressed changes that the national laboratories may be making in order to increase the effectiveness and relevance of the labs.

Panelists include: Lyndon Edwards, Institute Head, Australian Nuclear Science & Technology Organization (Australia); William Goldstein, Director, Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory; Nick Hanigan, Director of Waste Management and Decommissioning, NNL (United Kingdom); Jud Virden, Associate Laboratory Director, Energy and Environment Directorate, Pacific Northwest National Laboratory; Terry Michalske, Executive Vice President and Director, Savannah River National Laboratory; and Richard Meserve, President, Carnegie Institution for Science.
