48 - US Department of Energy Legacy Tank Waste Incidental to Reprocessing (WIR)

|
The topic will focus upon DOE remediation of cold war legacy tank waste and resultant waste incidental to reprocessing and the related responsibilities of US DOE and the US NRC under the National Defense Authorization Act of 2005 (NDAA). A panel representing the DOE, the NRC, the National Academy of Science (NAS), the States of South Carolina and Washington, and a individual familiar with congressional intent will discuss the US DOE remediations and waste determinations prepared by the US DOE and reviewed by the US NRC as well as the NAS Study on WIR and the legislative history behind the NDAA. Panelists include: Karen Guevara, US DOE; Shelly Sherritt, South Carolina; Frank Marcinowski, US DOE; Ryan Whited, US NRC; Frank Parker, NAS Board on Radioactive Waste Management; and Jeff Lyon, Washington Department of Ecology (USA).
