This panel focused on the work at the Featured Site – Hanford and specifically that of the Office of River Protection (ORP) located in Richland, Washington. The panel showcased recent progress, challenges and planned efforts in radioactive waste management, tank farm operations, waste tank retrieval activities, and construction of the Waste Treatment and Immobilization Plant at ORP. The panel began with a high-level overview of ORP’s major project goals and future work. The panel also provided information on the Direct Feed Low Activity Waste (DFLAW) initiative, start up and commissioning efforts and risk reduction steps, One System, a 2016 DOE Best Practice, integration steps, and technology development and insertion into ORP’s mission work.
