Session 020 - D&D of Nuclear Power Plants - Global Emerging Issues and Strategies

Co Chair(s):   Rateb Abu Eid (USA)
Fred Sheil (United Kingdom)
Lead Organizer:   Fred Sheil (United Kingdom)
Panel Reporter:   Michelle Claggett (USA)

This panel will focus on the worldwide D&D issues at Nuclear Power Plants. With the recent drop in gas prices in the US and reaction to the events of Fukushima the nuclear renaissance in Europe and North America has slowed or been reversed and a number of plants are being shut down earlier than initially planned. This panel will discuss national and international emergent issues and their impact on decommissioning strategies, planning and implementation.

Panelists include: Loren Sharp, Director/Nuclear Plant Manager, Pacific Gas and Electric Company; John Christian, Zion Solutions; Jerry Keto, Director, Nuclear Decommissioning and Waste Repositories, Ontario Power Generation (Canada); Bruno Thomauske, University of Aachen (Germany); and Claudio Pescatore, Principal Administrator, Radioactive Waste Management and Decommissioning, OECD Nuclear Energy Agency (NEA), (France).
