| The U.S. Department of Energy’s Environmental Management established through its Office of Science and Technology, the Deactivation and Decommissioning Focus Area (DDFA) to develop solutions for problems that hinder EM’s extensive efforts to clean up contaminated facilities. Improved technologies emerging from this program are more productive, less costly, and more protective of worker safety and health. The program’s cornerstone is the Large Scale Demonstration & Deployment Projects. Here, suites of improved technologies are demonstrated alongside baseline technologies. Accelerated Site Technology Deployments are also utilized to accelerate implementation of previously demonstrated technologies. Collectively, 102 technologies have been demonstrated, then deployed 382 times throughout the Complex. |
