| WITCO (Waste Inspection Technology Company), a division of Bio-Imaging Research, Inc. (BIR) provides mobile inspection systems and field inspection services and equipment for nuclear waste drum characterization with x-ray Nondestructive Examination (NDE) and gamma Nondestructive Assay (NDA). BIR features the Waste Inspection Tomography (WIT) mobile trailer with 2 MeV x-ray Digital Radiography (DR) and Computed Tomography (CT) for three-dimensional drum contents inspection. WIT provides gamma assay and spectroscopy using Active and Passive CT (A&PCT) located in a 20-foot sea-land container. WIT applies to LL, mixed, and TRU waste in drums up to 55 gallons. WIT can inspect all matrices including combustibles, cement, and sludge. WIT does not require prior knowledge of the matrix or isotopic gram loading before characterization. WITCO is part of the WTS CCP program from CFO. WIT has field experience at LLNL, RFETS, INEEL, NTS, and B&W Lynchburg, and is now deployed at ANL-E. WIT has passed the PDP for NDA three times, has DOE CFO approval, and has completed four CFO audits. |
